1 Point Perspective

Goal:  Creating our own imaginative 1 point perspective painting.

We are going to create a 1 point perspective painting.
1. What's perspective?
2. What do we need have in our drawing?
Three things - 1 - horizon line.  2 - vanishing point. 3 lines in the foreground moving back toward the vanishing point.
3. Size and Verticals.
4.  IMAGINATION - Visualize and draw what you see.

Critique the Examples.  Let them inspire you!

Painting Process will be next.... tints, shades, and colors OH MY!

DEPTH!  To be able to reach back into a setting... only it's a piece of paper... perspective is the illusion of space in a setting... it's SO AWESOME!

1 point perspective  -  horizon line  -  vanishing point  -  angle - vertical - horizontal - PATIENCE

do you remember this?....

But we want to start to imagine a different, unique world to our perspective.....
1. choose a theme
2. think of the most important parts of this theme
3. identify the parts of our perspective painting
vanishing point, flow to the VP, objects in the foreground, middleground, background
4. be thoughtful

But WE want to go out there... and learn about Ben Heine

Grant Wood Landscape Inspired Paintings

Grant Wood was an American Painter from Iowa

We will be learning about background, middle-ground, and foreground in a 2D image.

Then we will be working on objects in an image that are larger if nearer and smaller if further away.

Practice, practice, practice for our work with drawing landscapes and then we will move into a larger piece of paper for color mixing and painting!

Here is a video about Grant Wood and his American Gothic Painting.

Gr. 2 Keith Haring!

Haring moved to New York City in 1980 when he was just 20 years old to attend college at the School of Visual Arts. This was an exciting time to live in New York City because a lot of exciting things were happening in the art world. Haring was excited to be a part of it all, but because he didn't have a lot of money, he could not go see artwork he loved in the big museums and galleries. Haring thought this was unfair and believed that art should belong to everyone and that it should be free to the public. This inspired Haring to begin creating his artwork places where everyone could see, like the subway and on sides of building. Soon, people began to take notice of his fun, cartoony style and he became one of the most famous artists of his time!

First, we will begin drawing on our own around our stick figure poses.
Then, we will work with a team of 2 and paint our 'real haring-inspired' action poses!

Grade 4 - Cake making!

Wayne Thiebaud and his oil paintings are the inspiration for this 4th grade project!

This year we will be making our own cake paintings using paints and looking at  line, form, space, pattern, color, unity

Let's learn a bit about Wayne and how to draw layered cakes!

Op Art Hearts

OP Art STARBURST HEART!
Tools- Paper, pencil, eraser

1. Create a large heart on your paper and put a dot on one of the sides where your lines will 'burst'

2. From that dot you need to draw 10-12 (must be an even number) of diagonal lines to the edges of your paper.

3. Pick 2 color combos. Choose 1 combo for the heart and another for the background.
Alternate colors so no color is next to the same color - think A, B, A, B, the entire way around.

4. Need help - here is the video you can watch and draw with ME!

Drawing from Real Life

This week is drawing from observation!  What does that mean?
It means that you will be looking at objects in REAL LIFE and try to draw them on a piece of paper.
No tracing.  Every student from k-5 can practice this awesome skill.  It teaches us to see what
we are drawing so soon our eyes and our hand is working together to recreate a 2D image.
It also allows us to understand space in real life better.  You will also fail at this…
which allows us to learn and grow!
There are so many great reasons to draw from observation/real life…
LEARN FROM THE SNAKE ARTIST!  https://safeYouTube.net/w/AM5A
This is a great video by an artist from Tazmania… his other videos are AWESOME!

Your job - find 3 objects OR go sit in a room or outside.
IF you are sitting in a room or outdoors… draw what you see around you.
Think about space, line, shape, and how they all work together to create the image you are seeing
in that room or outside in nature.

My video demo is on objects - You will look them over, think about the shapes, and begin to draw them out.  This is my loom video.. Your objects will be different then mine. You can see my examples below. https://www.loom.com/share/ceac3ee557b242458dc7f68ecc1cd06f

The element of LINE!

This week we will focus on the element of LINE!
Here is a great video!  https://safeYouTube.net/w/cwu8
Lines are marks moving in a space between two points whereby the viewer can visualize
the stroke movement, direction, and intention based on how the line is viewed.
Lines describe an outline, capable of producing texture according to their length and curve.

Romero Britto is our ARTIST!  And for those of you that have done a lesson with me on Britto,
knows I LOVE THIS GUY!  And this week’s lesson is all about fish!
Here is a little bit about Romero Britto: https://safeYouTube.net/w/GEu8
Here are some examples of his fish:

We will just have a video this week to work through our pencil work!
REMEMBER… we are inspired by him but we can totally change it up!
Additions: sunglasses, ponytails, hats, hair accessories, even build the world around the fish like Britto!

The elements of Texture in ART!

April 20, 2020

This week we will focus on the element of TEXTURE!
In art, texture refers to the surface quality of  an artwork.
Not only is texture how something FEELS but it is also how something LOOKS!
In 3D art - like sculptures for example we see physical texture
but in 2D art - like drawings and paintings, many times we have to create
the texture of the objects with our drawing or painting tools!
Texture makes us interested in works of art and keeps our eyes looking for more!!!
Textures are so fun!

First thing- I want you to walk around your home and gather as many different
items as you can that have a different physical texture.
This is an example of what I found around my home:

Second thing- Can you label the items you found with a good ‘texture’ word to describe them?
Here is a great list for you to consider with some examples also:

How to Teach Texture! - Scratch Garden

Advanced enrichment: if you can get on a device, join us in this week’s pencil work project!
I have a K-2 video and a 3-5 video for you to follow along with! YOU CAN DO BOTH!
K-2 example: textured bunny...by me with some other ideas to add to it...

3-5 example: Rizzi cityscapes!  (James Rizzi)

The element of SPACE in Art

This week we will focus on the element of
SPACE!
In art, space refers to how shapes in the artwork are arranged.
Sometimes we use overlapping,
positive (full) and negative (empty) space,
foreshortening, and perspective.
I want you to look around your home for objects.
You will need- 1 large, 1 medium, 1 small object.
You can have more if you would like.

You are going to arrange them in a way that shows
there is a background, middle-ground, and foreground.  Y
ou will put yourself in front and drop yourself low to the floor.
This will give you some ‘perspective’.
This is my example for the layout.
A 3D picture! So much fun to create!

The more you add, the more you layer in the front, middle, and back. You are wanting to create depth in your '3D picture'. You can even take your hands and place them on the outside sides of your eyes so your line of vision is truly fixed on the objects you have arranged.

Finally, your pencil work for the week will looks a little bit like this…

Check out the video to follow along! Click HERE.

Have fun!
