Kinder Pumpkins

Lots of work with shapes lately and we need to get going on our large Pumpkins that are ready to roll in!

We are going to be working on collage.  Using color to overlap and create layers with our projects.
We are also going to be making Pumpkin Personalities!

What kind of pumpkin do we have?
Happy? Sad? or take is another step further... is it a Monster?  is it a Pumpkin Princess?

TOPIC_________________                          Wayne Thiebaud, painter  + dessert artist  + POP art
                                                                        clay container + ...
                                                                               - What kind of dinosaur inspired you?

Big Idea________________                          First I......How did you construct the clay container?
Supporting Details                                slab  +  coils   +  scratch and attach

Big Idea________________                          Then I.... or Next I....  What idea did you design for
Supporting Details                                your lid/cover/top of cake?  Why did you choose this?
                                                                                - What kind of details made your dinosaur great!

Big Idea________________                           In order to create my design.......  What did you have
Supporting Details                                 to do in order to make your drawing become a                                                                                          sculpture?

CONCLUSION__________                           Finally..... How did it all work out for you?  If you                                                                                  could do it again, what would you change?  If it turned                                                                            out great, why do you think that is?

Grade 2 Portraits

Color Groups-
Warms - red, orange, yellow
Cools - blue, green, purple
Paint papers to use for our background and framing.

then

Contour Line Portraits......
Using photos to understand the sections needed to identify hair, face, ears, neck, shoulders, shirts, teeth, lips, eyes, etc..... ITs Tough = Work Hard!

G will be our example.
Enjoy a smile as you get your photos back.

Then we work to find our lines - stick to WHAT YOU SEE.  do not rush through what YOU THINK YOU SEE.... we don't need to think about what it looks like when it is right in front of us to look at and trace.

1. Use pencil first on top of photo.

2. Use the lights boxes to transfer the pencil lines onto the back of the sheet.
Don't miss any!

3. Tape transparency on top and then go-to-town tracing the pencil lines with permanent marker.

FINALLY-

We will put the colors and the contours together.....
scissors, stamping, collaging... they know the drill.

Aboriginal Artwork + Storytelling

Aboriginal Art of Australia
First - we will learn about positive and negative space.
Positive space - the space occupied by the 'main' subjects (color, shapes, lines, objects)
Negative space - that space with an 'absense' of occupancy.  that area around the 'positive space'

Dreamtime- Time of Creation
Aboriginal Hand Stencils + connection to the land
We will be looking at Aboriginal symbols to help us tell the story of our walk-about.
Surrounding the symbols will be the focus of the Aboriginal dot painting.
These are some examples- only we will be creating a story of symbols also.
What are the color combinations you see in these examples?
We will work to create our story with our write tools format- Green yellow Green

Wayne Thiebaud

We begin with getting to know him.. and his passions for the simple things in life.

Then... we learn some perspective drawing with simple forms.  A little focus on tints and shades for our added understanding.

And finally- CLAY!
