The element of LINE!

This week we will focus on the element of LINE!

Lines are marks moving in a space between two points whereby the viewer can visualize
the stroke movement, direction, and intention based on how the line is viewed.
Lines describe an outline, capable of producing texture according to their length and curve.

Romero Britto is our ARTIST!  And for those of you that have done a lesson with me on Britto,
knows I LOVE THIS GUY!  And this week’s lesson is all about fish!

We will just have a video this week to work through our pencil work!
REMEMBER… we are inspired by him but we can totally change it up!

Additions: sunglasses, ponytails, hats, hair accessories, even build the world around the fish like Britto!

The elements of Texture in ART!

April 20, 2020

This week we will focus on the element of TEXTURE!

In art, texture refers to the surface quality of  an artwork.  

Not only is texture how something FEELS but it is also how something LOOKS! 

In 3D art - like sculptures for example we see physical texture

but in 2D art - like drawings and paintings, many times we have to create

the texture of the objects with our drawing or painting tools!  

Texture makes us interested in works of art and keeps our eyes looking for more!!!

Textures are so fun!

First thing- I want you to walk around your home and gather as many different

items as you can that have a different physical texture.  

This is an example of what I found around my home: 

Second thing- Can you label the items you found with a good ‘texture’ word to describe them?

The element of SPACE in Art

This week we will focus on the element of SPACE!
In art, space refers to how shapes in the artwork are arranged.

Sometimes we use overlapping, 

positive (full) and negative (empty) space, 

foreshortening, and perspective.

I want you to look around your home for objects.

You will need- 1 large, 1 medium, 1 small object.

You can have more if you would like.

You are going to arrange them in a way that shows

there is a background, middle-ground, and foreground.  Y

ou will put yourself in front and drop yourself low to the floor.

This will give you some ‘perspective’. 

This is my example for the layout. 

A 3D picture! So much fun to create!

The more you add, the more you layer in the front, middle, and back. You are wanting to create depth in your '3D picture'. You can even take your hands and place them on the outside sides of your eyes so your line of vision is truly fixed on the objects you have arranged.

Week of 4/6/20 SHAPE & FORM

Hi Everyone!
This week our theme is Shape and Form!

This is a great visual that will define what we need to know about Shape and Form. 

Shapes are 2D objects and Forms, 3D.  We are also being shown what geometric vs organic
shapes are in this image.  The shapes we have the most experience with are geometric shapes
and we know their names BUT we have been surrounded by organic shapes our whole life..
In our doodles and in nature.

Your task this week. A scavenger hunt for shapes and forms in and around where you are!

Can you find something for every geometric shape and form?

Can you also find something that is an organic shape or form?

This is my example:

Have a blast! Simply building our awareness of shapes and forms around us teaches us a
different way to look at our surroundings.  It’s not only an artist who sees the world like this
but an architect, engineer, surface designer, florist, landscape designer… the list could go on.

I miss you.  Don’t be worried about all the great art you’ve made this year. 
It will all get back to you!
